A new law in Idaho has taken effect that requires parental consent before any non-life-threatening medical services can be provided to minors. The Boise School District has detailed instructions to school staff on how to ensure they stay within the confines of that new law.

Senate Bill 1329 "Parental rights and medical decision-making" states that "Any Time an 'individual' provides 'a service' for the screen, examination, prevention, treatment, cure, care, or relief of any physical or mental health condition, illness, injury, defect, or disease, parental consent must first be received."

The Boise School District says in a letter to staff that "This includes bandaids, routine first aid, over the counter headache medications, mental health check-ins, etc."

The caveat to the new Idaho law is when death or imminent, irreparable physical injury to the minor child is present, or if after reasonably diligent effort to locate a parent or guardian is not successful and the child's life or health would be seriously endangered by further delay in the furnishing of care services.

A letter sent to parents of students throughout the Boise School District were sent a letter instructing them to fill out a parental consent form through the Infinite Campus portal.
