There are so many recreational opportunities along the Boise River and for this Treasure Valley Adventure, I tried my hand at fly fishing along the river in Garden City!

I learned that sometimes it's not about how many fish you can catch, it's about escaping the buzz of city life, right in the middle of town.

"The Boise has a lot to offer for folks in the Treasure Valley and it's a great place to go fishing," said Bob Becker, Nampa Fish Hatchery Manager.

From our camera viewpoint, you wouldn't think we chose a spot close to Veteran's Memorial Parkway.

But this is one adventure that’s close to home, and can be done almost year-round.

You’re likely to find success along the river thanks to Idaho Fish and Game, they stock it with thousands of rainbow trout each year.

"The Boise's a really unique and cool system, being the urban river that it is it gets a lot of use, it's one of our better areas as far as putting fish into flowing water and getting them to return to an angler’s hook," said Becker.

Most fish are stocked from the Star Road Bridge up to the Glenn Wood Bridge, and all points in-between.

We didn't have much luck fly fishing that day, but we had a great time.

Experts say that the river can be fished year-round, with exception of spring run-off season, and other fish such as steel-head salmon or brown trout can be also be found in the river.
